What happened : The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) decided to promote students of classes 1-8 without annual examinations. His decision came about amid Covid-19 causing frequent school closures. FDE announced that instead of annual exams for students of classes 1-7, they will be promoted based on formative assessments. Moreover, students of the eighth grade will be subjected to an in-house exam scheduled at the end of this month. They have urged schools to keep a credible record of assessments for all students to avoid mismanagement.
And if kids won't be able to have sufficient school time, exams for 1-7 really have to be rethought too. As of now, kids and teachers are still unsure – certainly we haven't had enough learning time this year in public schools and a promotion policy without exams might be the way https://t.co/QcLZvwlNKY

The response: Private Schools President Afzal Babar has criticised the decision over the late response as it has affected scholarship exams. However, the FDE believes that this will help students to better prepare for their next classes and this is the best decision they could make amidst the uncertainty of Covid-19 and the heatwave.
