“Wake Up Muslim Ummah” remained on top trending on Twitter just hours after clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians continued for the third day. According to Palestinian medics, 90 civilians were wounded by rubber bullets and stun grenades used by the Israeli officers.
How did it start?

Clashes began following an operation initiated by the Israeli police at Al-Aqsa mosque on Friday , resulting in widespread injuries. The mosque is considered to carry significance in both Islam and Judaism. The international community condemned the incident with Jordon calling out the Israeli violence as “Barbaric”. The operation follows a series of evictions of Palestinians from lands illicitly claimed by Jewish settlers.
Social Media reaction
Human rights activist, politicians, show hosts and other famous personalities reacted with rage on major social media platforms, calling the violence a breach of international law. As expected, Pakistanis showed mass discontent with the Israeli oppression, calling on their Muslim brothers around the world to raise their voice for the Palestinians. Petitions and donation channels were set in place by many accounts to raise awareness on the crisis and support the civilians in Jerusalem. Additionally, many called on the United Nations to carry out necessary operations in order to restore peace in the region.
Twitter trend
Following the atrocities, many twitter users called on the Muslim Ummah to help Palestine. Some shared disturbing images of the violence, while others shared their views on the occupancy of Jerusalem. Some people went as far as to draw parallels with the George Floyd incident in March last year.
