Pakistan’s number of active coronavirus cases surged past 50,000 on Wednesday, according to the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC). The second wave of the virus is spreading throughout the country as 3,499 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours. With the addition of the new cases the number of active coronavirus cases has climbed to 51,654. Data from the NCOC shows that the spread of the virus has quickened, as the total number of coronavirus cases crossed 400,000 on December 1 with at least 29,881 new cases reported in the last 10 days only.

The background:

Sindh reported the highest number of coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, with 1,983 infections. Punjab was second, with 727 new cases. Islamabad recorded 417, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 218, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 85, Balochistan 53, and Gilgit Baltistan 16. Pakistan’s coronavirus death toll currently stands at 8,205. And, 346,951 people have recovered from the virus up until now.
