What happened:
Tom Moyer, Apple’s head of global security, has been indicted in a bribery scandal revolving around trading ipads for concealed carry gun permits. Two Santa Clara police officers are also involved in this bribery scandal. Santa Clara County undersheriff Rick Sung and Captain James Jansen withheld 4 concealed carry permits from Apple, until the tech firm agreed to make a ‘donation’ to their police department. Tom Moyer then agreed to ‘donate’ 200 ipads worth approximately $70, 000. The permits were intended for Apple’s security team. But all parties involved in the deal pulled out of it at the last minute as they caught wind of the fact that Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen was already investigating the matter.
The Background:
District Attorney Rosen’s office stated that these permits normally cost between $200 and $400, but, “the sheriff has broad discretion in determining who should qualify”. Officers Rick Sung and James Janson were involved in another scandal of the same nature, where they received box suite tickets a Valentine’s Day San Jose Sharks game from insurance broker Harpreet Chadha in exchange for concealed carry gun permits.
