On Sunday, educationalist and activist Ammar Ali Jan called out local Pakistani brands Nishat and Gul Ahmed for allegedly firing their employees on the 2nd day of Ramadan.
After Nishat, Gul Ahmed has fired its workers. Cruel decision was taken on 2nd day of Ramzan.
These companies view workers, on whose blood & sweat their factories run, as disposable. Irony is that many of these brands are giving charity while refusing to pay their own workers.

Ammar Ali Jan did not provide any further proof of his claim on Twitter, but firing of employees during the ensuing economic crisis due to Covid-19 has become a widely held concern. Earlier in the month, Ammar Ali Jan had called out Lime Light and Generation for the same, however, Generation reached out, denying the claim – the video floating on social media was also proven not to be that of Generation’s factory, as the brand provided photographs as proof.
On Monday, CEO of PMC Positive, Omar R Quraishi tweeted the following.
A leading bank in Pakistan has cut salaries across the board by as much as 50% – to offset the impact of the coronavirus outbreak

In reply, Ammar Ali Jan shared that employees from Ibrahim group and PTCL had contacted them to share how the companies had laid off large number of employees.Â
Workers from Ibrahim group & PTCL contacted us to narrate how these companies have laid off large number of employees.
Maybe middle & working class people should do some fund raising for the elites as it seems like they have completely run out of money. #WorkersFirst https://t.co/TkTKZmD14q
