Global Citizen has announced that the One World: Together at Home concert co-organised by WHO and Lady Gaga has raised $127 million in relief funds for Covid-19.
The six hour long digital event featured performances from celebrated musicians from home as they self-isolated including the Rolling Stones and Billie Eilish. Relief funds and impact With a considerable chunk of the donations from corporate sponsors, the WHO’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund will get $55.1m, while $72.8m will go to charities such as food banks and shelters. The WHO fund will also be geared towards tests, treatment, and support for the development of a vaccine. Apart from raising funds, the concert also gave celebrities an opportunity to raise awareness. Beyonce drew attention towards the African American sector of the workforce saying, “Pre-existing health conditions and lack of access… are some of the reasons why it’s most prevalent amongst communities of colour.”
