Due to climate change and the excessive use of pesticides on farmland, the population of bees has drastically fallen worldwide.
Alternative methods of pollination are being sought in order to replace the bees. Mechanical pollination Tractors will pull a mast equipped with a dozen small cannons which will be able to shoot pollen at the trees very precisely in order for fertilisation to take place. Eylam Ran, CEO of Edete Precision Technologies for Agriculture said, “We see a crisis in 15 years where we don’t have enough insects in the world to actually do pollination and most of our vitamins and fruits are gone.” This artificial pollinator will serve to take over the fertilisation and pollination function of the bee. Its system will imitate that of the honey bee, beginning with a mechanical harvest of pollen from flowers and ending with a distribution of that pollen using LIDAR sensors.
