Masoom Ali, a Police constable, shot teenager Sami-ur-Rehman on his chest, as he resisted the rape attempt in Kasur, Punjab on Sunday. On Monday, the local police hastened to arrest their colleague constable Masoom Ali for murdering a teenager following a failed rape attempt. A First Information Report (FIR) has also been filed against the accused policeman. Punjab’s Law Minister Raja Basharat Ali – upon acknowledging the incident- asked District Police Officer (DPO) Kasur Zahid Marwat to present a detailed report. The Provincial Minister further directed police officials to assist the victim’s family. CM Buzdar takes notice Punjab’s Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed grief over the assassination of a Hafiz-e-Quran in Kasur. He announced that the accused would be sentenced to a horrific punishment as per law. Human rights activists have also started an online Twitter campaign using the hashtag #JusticeforSamiUrRehman.
