Amina remains one of the youngest survivors of a terror attack targeting Kabul’s maternity ward last week.
As gunmen opened fire on maternity wards, there were 24 fatalities in the attack, 16 of whom were mothers and another 15 were injured. No terrorist group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Such terror attacks have increased over the past few years; in 2018 alone there were 1294 terrorist attacks registered in Afghanistan. Statistics on attacks in 2019 and 2020 remain unavailable due to the shortage of government resources.
Amina’s own mother fell victim to the attack. While speaking to BBC correspondents, Amina’s father explained that the attackers had broken into maternity wards and started firing on newborn babies and mothers indiscriminately. Amina had just been born when the fighting started. Also read: Rwanda orders release of 50 women imprisoned for having abortions
