The Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern along with ministers in her government and public service chief executives will take a 20 per cent pay cut for the next six months in order to combat the negative economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ardern commented, “This is where we can take action and that is why we have.” New Zealand has recorded of 1300 cases of the coronavirus and has enforced a one month lockdown to contain its spread in the country. The government has already announced fiscal measures, including wage subsidies and support for small businesses, of around NZ$20 billion.
