Local transmission now makes up 35% of confirmed Covid-19 cases reported in Sindh

The Sindh government has reported six new coronavirus cases due to local transmission of the novel coronavirus in Karachi on Monday. The provincial tally have now risen to 508, which is 30.5% of the total number of cases in Pakistan.  In Sindh, there are 177 cases of local transmission, which is nearly 35% of the total number of cases in the province. The majority of reported cases in Sindh are of the pilgrims who returned from Iran via the Taftan border, where they were quarantined for a period of 14 days. The Sindh government imposed a strict 15-day lockdown in the province last week to curb the spread of the virus, it has also stated that a curfew will follow the lockdown, if residents do not follow strict social distancing protocol and precautionary measures. Despite the lockdown being put into place by the government, new cases due to local transmission of the coronavirus are being reported on daily basis but it is not yet clear if the results coming forward are of those individuals that were conducted in the previous week.
