The river looks like a sea of froth and people online were quick to equate its resemblance to that of a bubble bath. Despite the toxicity, devotees still took to the river to pray and engage in the worship of their Sun God during the four day long festival.

The pollution levels in the Yamuna river are so high that it has been labelled ‘dead’ due to the lack of oxygen giving no chance of marine life survival. The river plays a significant part in various religious ceremonies performed by Hindu’s and is also home to the city’s industrial and residential waste where people even wash their clothes and utensils.
