A senior member of the ruling Indian Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has offered Indian citizenship to former president Pervez Musharraf.
This offer was made following the release of the detailed verdict against the former military leader in the high treason case against him. BJP Rajhya Sabha (Upper House) Member of Parliament Subramanian Swamy said on Thursday that Musharraf could be granted fast-track citizenship as he was from Daryaganj (New Delhi) and was being persecuted. The offer was made via Twitter after the death sentence verdict was awarded to Musharraf.
We can give Musharraf fast track citizenship since he is from Daryaganj and suffering persecution. All self—acknowledged descendants of Hindus are qualified in a new CAA to come

Furthermore, the comments made by the Indian MP come following the passage of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 which offers citizenship to religious minorities facing persecution in neighbouring states, but excludes Muslims. Swamy further added that in a new CAA to come, citizenship could also be granted to self-acknowledged descendants of Hindus.
