Senior medics at Jhang DHQ Hospital, Lahore have been found guilty for the deaths of seven newborns due to negligence In a confidential official report submitted by the Jhang CEO to the Health Secretary asking for strict action to be taken against the guilty medics, it was revealed that the doctors had not even been present in the hospital at the time of the newborn’s deaths. The report mentioned the names and details of deaths of the newborns, and stated that the doctors were asked to reach the hospital to take care of the critically ill newborns, but they did not respond. The deaths of seven newborns took place over a week. The report also highlighted the poor state of treatment facilities available at the nursery, and that the head of the paeds department has never visited visited the department once in eight months. It was only when the CEO visited and found newborns severely ill with no one tending to them that he noticed the doctors’ negligence and decided to take action.
