The Accountability Court has furthered the physical remand of Maryam Nawaz and her cousin Yousuf Abbas for the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case by eight more days, according to Geo News.
The two were first arrested on August 8, after which their remand has been repeatedly extended; Maryam had been in Kot Lakhpat jail on a visit to her father at the time.
During the proceedings, the NAB prosecutor said investigations brought up evidence of an agreement for the division of the family’s assets. Reports indicate that on multiple occasions, shares had been divided between the Board of Directors- namely Mian Sharif, Kulsoom Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz- that were not included in the family assets. These shares ranged from 14 to 26 million. Despite being sent back to jail, Maryam appeared calm and collected as she exited the court after the hearing. PML-N supporters have taken to Twitter with the hashtags #AikBahadurLarki and #PrideOfTheNationMNS in support of the party’s Vice President, showing outrage at the court’s decision.
