The Xinhua News Agency, also known as the New China News Agency, is the official state-run agency of the People’s Republic of China and is the biggest and most influential media organisation of the nation. Not only is the Xinhua News Agency the biggest in the world in terms of correspondents worldwide but on November 10th at the World International Conference they revealed their newest marvel: Qiu Hao.
Qui Hao, the newest anchor at the agency is a humanoid powered by artificial intelligence modelled after a real anchor at the agency named Zhang Zhao.
“I’ll work tirelessly to keep you informed as texts will be typed into my system uninterrupted,” states Qui Hao in a monotonous void devoid of any emotion in his debut video. The Xinhua News Agency has argued that anchors powered by AI can significantly cut on production costs for TV news agencies but we’re sure that Zhang Zhao won’t be out of a job anytime soon. China isn’t the only country that has ventured into AI when it comes to news, the Japanese news agency Kodormoroid debuted Erica, a life-like android who is apparently 23 years old. Erica can capably recite scripted writing and hold a conversation with humans, due to a combination of speech-generation algorithms, facial-recognition technology and infrared sensors that allow her to track faces across a room.
