A new proposal could lead to a ban on first cousin marriages in the UK

A former Conservative minister, Richard Holden, has proposed banning first-cousin marriages in the UK, citing health risks for children born from such unions.

However, independent MP Iqbal Mohamed disagreed, suggesting education on the risks would be more effective. Downing Street acknowledged the risks but stated there are no plans to change the law.
