A transwoman organizer was abducted and tortured for information on Climate March in Karachi

What happened: Karachi Bachao Tehreek (@karachibachaotehreek) took on their Twitter account to report that one of their organizers, who is a transwoman, was abducted and raped on her way back home from the organizing meeting. According to the team, the incident took place on Saturday night, a day before the march. Details: People in Karachi took on the streets of Nehr-e-Khayyam and Bilawal Chowk on December 12, Sunday where they protested against the forced demolitions. “Our march centered the demands of working class people in Karachi who have been impacted by eco-fascist and extractive ‘development’ projects,” Karachi Bachao Tehreek mentioned their aims in the Twitter thread. The organizers further insist that it’s worth noting that the accused party targeted the ‘most vulnerable’ member of their team. They claim that the on-duty officers weaponized ‘sexual violence’ against her, “They did it so that information about the march and its program could be extorted from her,” says the team. What else: Karachi Bachao Tehreek also shared that their protestors faced ‘police brutality’ on the day of the march and were not being allowed to move forward with their rally. They clarified their motive and said that from Bahria Town to Gujjar and Orangi Nullah, organizers resisted against forced displacements and climate injustice. Lastly, they requested people to join them in ‘demanding accountability’ from the Sindh government and Sindh police for their subjecting their organizer to violence.
