Banksy’s “Girl with a Pierced Eardrum” gets updated with a face mask

The graffiti picture called “Girl with a Pierced Eardrum” has been updated with a surgical face mask, moving with the times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Banksy, an anonymous England-based street artist, created the mural of the “Girl with the Pierced Eardrum” as a satirical take on Vermeer’s original “Girl with the Pearl Earring.” However, this depiction, made in 2014, was recently updated with the addition of a blue face mask during this era of the coronavirus pandemic. It is unknown whether Banksy made this addition himself or if this is the work of another anonymous street artist situated in Bristol. Banksy’s own identity remains concealed from the public. Banksy’s technique stands out on the streets with its incorporation of satire, dark humour and graffiti. The stencilled art can be found all over Britain as well as on Banksy’s Instagram page.
