What happened: On March 21, Emma Alam of Pakistan won the finals of the 13th World Speed Reading Championships, defeating more than 100 competitors from around the world. Emma, who won the competition by defeating her Chinese opponent in the finals, was also named World Memory Champion in 2020, and already holds two Guinness World Records titles. What is speed-reading: Competitors in the Speed Reading Championships are given a book which they have to read in two hours. When the contestant is done reading, their time is recorded and the book is then taken away from them. After this, participants are handed a comprehension question paper, which contains 20 questions created by the author and an arbiter from the Guild of Mind Sports Arbiters. Other achievements: Another Pakistani girl, Abeerah Ather is currently ranked fourth in the World Speed Reading Championships. Previously, Emma Alam came in third place and Ambreen Hameed came in fourth place for Team Pakistan at the 12th World Mind Mapping Championship.
