Belgian study reveals llama blood contains antibodies that could fight Covid-19

Scientists in Belgium have discovered that antibodies in the blood of camels, llamas and alpacas might be useful in fighting the coronavirus.

The Vlaams Institute for Biotechnology, where the study is taking place explained that the antibodies “may serve as useful therapeutics during coronavirus outbreaks.” What is the feasibility of these findings?  The llamas produce incredibly tiny antibodies in comparison to ours. Llama antibodies are able to wriggle a little bit deeper than human antibodies and penetrate the parts that flu cannot change. Previously, llamas have been used to produce new antibody therapies that have had the potential to work against all types of flu, particularly influenza. The antibodies were initially used in research to combat HIV and they were found to be effective against some viruses including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
