Britain’s oldest penguin celebrates 30th birthday

Humboldt Penguin named Rosie arrived at Yorkshire Zoo in 1990 and she celebrated her 30th birthday on April 20th.

The zoo has been closed due to the coronavirus but that did not stop zookeepers from decorating Rosie’s place in the zoo with birthday banners. The head zookeeper said, “We are genuinely excited that Rosie is about to reach her 30th birthday, and we will definitely be marking the occasion!” Rosie the penguin has surpassed her life expectancy by 10 years which is why her caretakers are so excited about this particular birthday. She is also one of the four penguins who are essential to the zoo’s breeding programme. Zookeepers did express their disappointment at not being able to celebrate Rosie’s birthday with the public due to the lockdown saying, “It’s obviously a real shame that we can’t share it with the public in the normal way, but we look forward to welcoming visitors back to the zoo, and to the daily penguin feeding times, as soon as we are able.” Read more from Propergaanda: Greta Thunberg weighs in on the 50th Earth Day
