Bushra Bibi, in tears, decries ‘unjust sentencing’ of Imran Khan, herself

What Happened: Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, expressed deep sorrow in court over their “unjust sentencing,” seeking bail for herself and Khan, who remains imprisoned on multiple charges.

What you need to know: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, became emotional during a recent court hearing, expressing her distress over what she called their “unjust sentencing.” She appeared before Islamabad District Magistrate Afzal Majoka’s court to seek bail for herself and her husband, who is currently imprisoned on multiple charges.

What more: Bushra Bibi described her experience over the past nine months as filled with injustice, stating, “I and the PTI founder were unjustly sentenced.” She expressed frustration with the legal process, claiming that all the lawyers, including her own, were merely wasting time. “There is no justice, I haven’t come to seek justice,” she lamented.

Also: She questioned the humanity of those involved in the judicial system, asking, “Isn’t the person inside [the prison] a human? Doesn’t any judge see this?” Bushra Bibi stated she would not return to that court again, feeling there was no justice to be found. She mentioned that she had her belongings in her car outside the court and was prepared to go back to jail if instructed.

Also: Bushra Bibi was released from jail last month after receiving bail in the Toshakhana case from the Islamabad High Court. However, Imran Khan remains incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s Adiala prison. Both deny the charges against them, which stem from a conviction related to retaining and selling state gifts while Khan was in office.
