What happened: PM Imran Khan has ordered the director-general of FIA to hold investigations over reported inaction of the Federal Investigation Agency as the harassment complaints have been subjected to neglected at Pakistan Citizens’ Portal. PM Imran Khan has also ordered to take disciplinary action against officials for showing negligence.
Background: A woman filed a harassment complaint on portal five times from December 2019 to June 2021, yet the complaint remained unaddressed. According to the letter released by the Prime Minister House, the women approached the PM house on June 15, 2021, after receiving no response from FIA. The woman also told that she had to leave her job at university due to alleged harassment and tried committing suicide due to the unconcerned behavior of FIA officials at lodged complaints. PM Imran Khan has now ordered a high-level inquiry on the issue and has asked to ensure vengeance to officials responsible. The inquiry report will be submitted to PM in July 2021.
