Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar on Tuesday began distributing Sehat Insaf Sahulat cards for some 70,000 special persons and their families to avail treatment up to Rs720,000 per annum at certain private hospitals across the country.
The CM made an announcement about providing free treatment to approximately 30,000 registered thalassaemia patients who are in need of regular blood transfusion. The CM made this announcement while giving a speech at the cards distribution ceremony amongst special persons on International Day for Special Persons. He explained that the government was doing all that it could to transform special persons into productive citizens of society. He further explained that the Sehat Insaf Card was one of the PTI government’s flagship programmes and expressed his hope that this project would facilitate at least one third of the population to avail healthcare facilities and treatment for both chronic and major illnesses at private hospitals. He added that additional aims of the PTI government in terms of helping special persons included Punjab Ehsas Programme, which included the “Humqadam Programme” which aims to offer monthly financial support to special persons. He further mentioned that special persons would be given their due right of two per cent quota in government jobs and that the government would be providing jobs to approximately 575 visually impaired people. He further explained that the government would be establishing four special education institutions in Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Sargodha and Okara as well as upgrading special education institutions across the nation. Buzdar also added that the government would be providing 14 new buses for the transport of special children. Dr Yasmin Rashid, the Health Minister of Punjab, said that the government has distributed over 4.5 million health cards among people living below the poverty line in 30 districts. She further expressed that by the end of the year, they hope to increase the number to 7.2 million cards. The CM distributed these cards to attendees of the ceremony.
