Captain Safdar arrested from the airport

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Captain (retd) Mohammed Safdar on his return from London. This news made everyone anticipate of what to expect next. Maryam Nawaz would be appearing in an accountability court relating to the Panamagate case. Arrest warrants for Safdar were issued by NAB after he and other members of the family failed to appear before it.

Today marks the 12th anniversary of the deadly 8th Oct earthquake

Special prayer ceremonies were held for the victims of the deadliest quake at mosques, schools and government offices in Muzaffarabad. Besides, one-minute silence was observed and sirens were blown at 08:52 am in the memory of those who fell victims to the natural disaster. Acting AJK Prime Minister Raja Nisar laid floral wreath at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada and a walk was also organised at the Quaid-e-Azam Chowk in Mirpur.

 Pakistani Origin Amir Qayyum makes it big as a Vice President for Norway’s Parliament

Pakistani born Abid Qayyum Raja, a Norwegian lawyer and Liberal Party politician, was elected as the fifth vice president for Norway’s Parliament, confirmed a Norwegian publication. “The fact that I, who has a Muslim background and grew up in a municipal apartment in a poor immigrant family with a mother who was illiterate, have entered the presidency shows what it is possible to achieve in Norway.” he remarked.

Pakistani Hockey team leaves for Asia Cup in Dhaka

Good news for all Pakistan Hockey fans. Three-time world champions Pakistan Hockey team left for Dhaka to compete with other Asian teams for Asia Cup. It begins from October 11th  to 22nd. The opening day match would be played against Bangladesh vs Pakistan. It’s going to be a full house!

Shahbaz Sharif Inaugrated the arrival of Orange-Line Metro in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the first set of bogies that arrived from China. This project is outside of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Investment.

Sharif said during the press conference that it would provide modern, safe and affordable transport facilities to the commuters. Nearly 0.25 million commuters would travel via Orange Line train daily. For its investment and spending; Rs 150 billion of the Rs 165 billion project is provided by the Chinese government to Punjab under a loan agreement.

China dismissed US Criticism on CPEC

The Chinese Foreign Ministry finally responded to United States (US) criticism that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) passes through the disputed territory of occupied Kashmir. He rejected the criticism by saying that the project has not changed China’s stand that the Kashmir issue should be resolved by India and Pakistan bilaterally.

He clarified further: “We have repeatedly reiterated that the CPEC is an economic cooperation initiative that is not directed against third parties and has nothing to do with territorial sovereignty disputes and does not affect China’s principled stance on the Kashmir issue.”

Javed Iqbal appointed as the new NAB Chairman

 

The Ministry of Law and Justice announced the appointment of retired Justice Javed Iqbal as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Justice Iqbal served as a judge of the Supreme Court until 2011.

Under the National Accountability Ordinance, the appointment of NAB chairman is made by the prime minister in consultation with the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. Considering the latest events, the appointment is an important one.
