Indian women hold 11% of the world’s gold, totaling 24,000 metric tons—significantly more than the gold reserves of the USA (8,133 tons), Germany (3,362 tons), Italy (2,451 tons), France (2,436 tons), and Russia (2,298 tons).
South India holds the largest portion of this reserve, accounting for 40%, with Tamil Nadu leading the region at 28%. Gold stored in Indian households constitutes 40% of the country’s GDP.
