What Happened : The delivery platform Careem flirted with the idea of doing drone deliveries. On Thursday 10th June, they dropped a teaser informing customers that they could potentially be receiving their food orders via drones if they order from the Careem Super app. Careem said the pilot project consisted of deliveries that were extremely limited in the number of customers and distance covered. They aim to take the project to the next stage once they are confident about its feasibility. The service will potentially be available in Karachi and Lahore.

The Bigger Picture: The platform wants to use effective technology to simplify and improve service towards their customers. Such innovative change has been seen across food delivery platforms. In 2020, Amazon also received approval of operating a fleet of drones for deliveries and UberEats is also in the process of testing drones. Click here for more from ProperGaanda.
