When it comes to Pakistani cuisine and in particular, Pakistani beverages, we are definitely spoiled for choice. Kashmiri chai, Rooh Afza, Lassi and Tang have become staples for the Pakistani palette.
In the midst of enjoying these sweet beverages, however, we have let other Pakistani beverages take the backseat. Here are some of the most underrated beverages that quench our thirst and bring us joy. Sattu
Sattu, which has been dubbed the ‘poor man’s protein’, it is one of the most underrated drinks in our country. Sattu is a flour like ingredient high in nutrients which, when mixed with water and sugar, makes for a delicious refreshment. Doodh Soda
An undoubtably strange combination, this mixture is typically enjoyed during the summer and I’m sure it is a standout memory in most people’s childhoods. These days, however, there’s been a decline in the number of people drinking doodh soda. This could be because it isn’t common to have when you’re in your late teens or twenties, or because most adults don’t really drink doodh as they get older. In any case, this is one drink we need back in our lives. Ganna ka juice
Gannay ka juice, also known as sugarcane juice, is a popular beverage in most nations that produce sugar cane on a large scale. This is another drink that is popular in the summertime and can often be found at any roadside vendor in Pakistan. This drink can be enjoyed with a hint of lime or ginger and if you want to add an extra punch, you can have it with a pinch of pepper. Badam ka sharbat
Fresh badaam ka sharbat (almond juice) isn’t enjoyed as much as it used to be. This is probably because there are various pre-packaged versions of this beverage available in most supermarkets. Making this juice is very easy; try prepping at home by getting some almonds, soaking them in water overnight and then cooking them up with some sugar, ilaichi and spices for a refreshing treat at home. Rabri Doodh
A true desi will tell you that a chilled glass of Rabri Doodh is better than most other drinks. This bubbly, creamy milk beverage is to die for. The name originates from the amazing milk dessert called Rabri. Keep up to date with more news at ProperGaanda: Pakistani films are beginning to make a strong impression on millennials
