Starting January 1, teenagers in Florida under the age of 16 will be restricted from creating social media accounts due to a new law. However, parents can grant permission for 14- and 15-year-olds to access social media, provided they approve it with the platforms.
The legislation targets platforms with algorithms and “addictive features” aimed at younger users. Before enforcement begins, the state is defending the law in federal court amid criticism.
“This law limits access to free speech,” said Paul Taske, Associate Director of Litigation at NetChoice.
