Dr SBS Oberoi has announced that he will be establishing an academic chair in Punjab University to promote research into the life and philosophy of Sikhism founder, Baba Guru Nanak.
Dr SBS Oberoi, a Dubai-based hotelier and social activist has announced he will be setting up an academic chair in Punjab University, Lahore dedicated to Guru Nanak. Additionally, he is also arranging state-of-the-art automated machinery for the preparation of langer at the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan. Dr Oberoi, who runs the Sarbat Da Bhalla Charitable Trust said the Guru Nanak chair would be set up at the Punjab University Research Centre. This announcement comes following the Sikh founder’s 550th birthday this year. The centre will be teaching Guru’s ‘baani’ as well as his teaching. It will also be conducting special seminars and discussions to promote his philosophy globally. Dr Oberoi has stated that ‘We propose to deposit a handsome amount in the bank which could generate an annual interest of at least Rs 35 lakh-Rs 40 lakh to fund the research work, arranging literature and reference material and conducting programmes.’.
