Here’s how Pakistanis reacted after HUM TV said the award show will raise funds for victims

What happened: As Pakistani celebrities landed in Toronto, Canada to attend Hum Style Awards, the community called out the organisers and artists for prioritising a large-scale event when the money spent could’ve been donated to the flood-hit areas. Netizens also pointed out how known personalities from abroad are visiting Pakistan to volunteer and help the flood-affectees whereas its own people are flying away to attend a glitzy-glamorous event. Amidst the criticism, HUM TV issued a statement that the award show is being commenced to raise funds for the flood victims, “Apart from donating a significant portion of revenue from the sale of tickets, we also organised a fundraising gala on Sept 22.” Most of the people thought that the statement was a ‘lame comeback’ as they said the initiative could’ve been taken in Pakistan also. A netizen named Samreen Fatima wrote, “Artists ke travel and accommodation expense + venue booking ka amount hi donate kerdete. I’m sure that would be more as compared to the portion of revenue.”
