What happened: Shahnawaz, the son of senior journalist Ayaz Amir, confessed to the crime and claimed that he “suspected” his wife was having an affair with another person. The culprit gave the statement after was arrested by the police on Sept 23 as a suspect in his wife’s murder.
Details: Sara was murdered in the federal capital’s Chak Shahzad neighbourhood; according to the Islamabad Police spokesperson. According to sources, the suspect told the police that the deceased was his third wife and that they had married three months ago. Shahnawaz’s statement: “Sara and I connected on social media. She arrived back in Islamabad yesterday from Dubai. I suspected her of having an affair with someone else but she kept reassuring me that that wasn’t the case,” according to sources, Shahnawaz told the authorities. The suspect claimed during questioning that Sara tried to choke him before he pushed her away, “At about 9:30 am, Sara made an attempt to choke me. I pushed her away because I felt I was going to die, and she fell. She sprang back up and started attacking me once more, so I grabbed my dumbbells that were close to me and struck her in the head.” FIR: As per Zahid Gishkori, Samaa TV’s Investigation Unit Head, the deceased’s family didn’t approach the police to register an FIR against the murderer, “The police themselves became a party against Shahnawaz Amir in this case.”
Recent: For an autopsy, the victim’s body has been moved to PIMS Hospital Islamabad. The murder weapon and other evidence have reportedly been submitted for study while a forensic examination of the crime scene has been finished, according to the sources.
