Zerka Tahir, the woman behind the Sustainable Intervention Drive is providing much-needed educational, health, vocational, recreational and counselling services to empower the children of sex-workers through the Learning Hubs.
“We started off with just making our presence felt without threatening them and their way of life, or being judgemental. We wanted to provide them with all the opportunities and thought even if one child from a brothel comes in, we’ll be successful,” Zerka says about the Learning Hubs community space.
The aim of this initiative is to break the cycle of prostitution, drugs, and pimping for these children and their families. Learning Hubs is supported by Akhuwat, WCLA and Punjab Aids Control Programme. Through the support of governmental and non-governmental organisations, Learning Hubs is also able to provide medical services and rations for the community.
Learning Hubs follows the Punjab curriculum and Textbook Board curriculum along with project-based learning. After five years at the Centre, the children are sent into government schools to complete their education. Click here to see more from Propergaanda
