Maryam Mujtaba is the first woman from Azad Kashmir to become a commercial pilot

What Happened : After joining the International Airlines (PIA) back in 2011 as a cadet pilot, and completing her training from academies in Rawalpindi and America, Maryan Mujtaba is the first woman from Azad Kashmir to become a commercial pilot, as recognized by the President of AJK Sardar Masood Khan.  

Maryam was recently promoted as a first officer by the national flag carrier after she completed her required flying hours. She currently operates the PIA Airbus 3-20 aircraft in various countries of the world. “When I was a child, I was very excited to see a woman flying planes and I told my father that girls can fly planes too,” the pilot remembered, adding the journey towards her success was not always smooth and free of obstacles. She credited her family, mentors, and colleagues for helping her realize her dream. The Impact: Mujtaba’s success is inspirational for women aspiring to become pilots and those who belong to other male-dominated fields.
