Mass burials are taking place in Brazil’s Amazon city of Manaus as local tribes are left more vulnerable to the virus.
The city, with a population of about two million, is handling more than 100 burials a day which is three times the normal average. The city is home to 300 tribes who still live the same way they did centuries before. Indigenous tribes are particularly susceptible to the virus because they do not have the facilities, medical or otherwise, to treat those infected. Mass burials are taking place in the city of Manaus to bury Covid-19 victims. Manaus has been hard-hit by Covid-19. Its healthcare system has reportedly collapsed due to the strain on resources in Brazil. The number of cases in Brazil has exceeded 50,000 but the health minister, Dr. Nelson Teich, is insistent on relaxing restrictions.
