Manaal Shuja, Co-founder Edmatrix.

They have launched 3 self-paced courses – O Level Biology, O Level English, and SAT; Created more than 200 educational videos; and further digitized more than 3000 past paper questions. EdMatrix is partnered with passionate and creative teachers who also provide extra support via live classes.

How they aim to go beyond traditional learning :

Besides an organization that aims to make education convenient and exciting, it is a platform that focuses on the personal growth of both students and teachers. They have designed exciting course packs with personalized videos and detailed exams. Their courses contain everything: interactive lectures, notes, quizzes and live classes.

The founders of Edmatrix, Dr. Faryal Shuja and Manaal Shuja, have substantial amount of experience in the teaching field. They have always been passionate about helping and interacting with young students.

THE FOUNDING STORY:

It all started when the pandemic hit: With teaching largely becoming remote Dr. Faryal Shuja and Manaal Shuja realized that education was gravely at loss. Both, students and teachers, were suffering as they had never been prepared for online modes of learning. No one could quite figure the secret to make learning interactive and interesting so that students could be prepared for their approaching exams. An academic environment that was already wrought with anxiety and pressure became even more so.
However, the founders noticed that students were turning to e-learning platforms such as YouTube, Khan Academy and Chegg where they could control what they learnt and when. At the same time, students would also ask teachers to record their live lectures so they could watch them later.

Thus both founders concluded that there needed to be a more personalized platform that would offer both synchronous and asynchronous mode of teaching.
Hence came Edmatrix.

“Back when I first decided I wanted to mentor students, the only thought in my mind was to help open doors that had been closed to me. I didn’t want education to feel like a mechanical checklist. I wanted to help students tap into their creativity, their own passions – wherever those lay.”

Another development both founders are excited about is the valuable new additions to the team. Early strategic investors in Edmatrix, Raja Ahmed Shuja and Syed Onib Nasir, were integral to the company’s success. As ex-Uber executives, their experience scaling the tech giant in Pakistan from ground-up equips them to now take Edmatrix to the next level. Raja will be joining the startup full-time as CEO with Onib acting as COO to steer operations. A third new member, Abdullah Javed (also ex-Uber), will be bringing his skillset as a filmmaker to accelerate the startup’s content strategy. Edmatrix is also supported by a startup studio called Million Ventures – based in Berlin and founded by Han Gust. Moving forward, Gust and his team will be acting as strategic advisors in providing tech and marketing solutions to Edmatrix. Where they plan to go from here: Edmatrix wants go beyond their current success in breaking away from the traditional “one size fits all” approach. They believe that education must meet the needs of all students – and this is where EdTech comes in. They aim to inculcate artificial intelligence and machine learning to identify individual needs. This would make the process of learning highly personalized and more beneficial than ever before.

“We are excited about where EdTech is heading in Pakistan. I feel that this right here is a turning point. There is so much work left to do, but we’re hopeful and excited because we know we have the strongest and most motivated team there is.
