Minority organization claims Hindu woman was abducted and forcibly converted in Sindh

What happened : Voice of Pakistan Minority, a non-profit organization committed to protect minority rights in Pakistan, recently reported the possible forced conversion and abduction of a Hindu woman Savari.

They revealed in a tweet that the incident took place on 26th June when 4 unknown men in Rahuki, a region in Sindh, abducted the already married Hindu woman and converted her to Islam. VPOM further stated that no FIR has been lodged against the perpetrators. Moreover, Sindh government has not taken any action despite VPOM voicing out about the incident.

State of Minorities in Pakistan: Forced conversions, rape, abduction and forced marriage of women, especially from religious minorities, happen everyday in Pakistan. They speak volumes about the systematic persecution and barbarity that non-Muslims face at the hands of the dominant Pakistani society, while little or no action is taken by the government. Previously this year, Arti Kumari was abducted while going to a beauty parlor in Pakistan’s southern city of Larkana. On April 9, she appeared in a Karachi court with her Muslim husband. Sonia Kumari,13-year-old, was kidnapped in the feudal Kashmore region of southern Sindh province. A day later police told her parents she had converted from Hinduism to Islam. Another underage girl, Arzoo Raja was abducted from her home in central Karachi. After her parents reported her missing and pleaded the police to find her, officers reported back that she had been converted to Islam and was married to their 40-year-old Muslim neighbor. According to the CSJ, 162 cases of questionable conversions of minority girls were reported in Pakistan between 2013 and 2020. More than 46 percent of victims were minors, with nearly 33 percent aged 11-15. More than 54 percent of victims belonged to the Hindu community, while 44 percent were Christians. However, it is vital to mention that most cases related to abduction and forced conversion go unreported. Last year the CSJ launched an appeal to Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking public support to protect religious minorities from forced conversion. Click here to see more from Propergaanda.
