What happened: A recent report on February 6 by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics claimed that over 31% of the country’s youth is currently unemployed, and out of this 31%, 51% are females and 16% are males. PIDE’s report further revealed that 31% are professional degree holders, and it is pertinent to mention that nearly sixty percent of Pakistan’s population is less than 30 years old.
Details: Furthermore, it highlighted that the unemployment rate in Pakistan is nearly 7 percent. Express Tribune quotes the development, “Far more females and those living in urban areas are unemployed than their male and rural counterparts.” Subsequently, the report disclosed that a large part of the working-age group in Pakistan is not a part of the country’s labor force.
More: Whereas, another local publication quoted, “The education is considered a panacea and they key to all opportunities, but reality shows us otherwise.” At the same time, the PIDE report highlighted that rural graduate unemployment is higher than urban. The report concluded that the disconnect is higher for young females, as 60% can neither work nor study.
