NASA: An exoplanet 300 light-years away could be home to life

Just 300 light years away, an earth-like exoplanet has been discovered by NASA. Receiving about 75 per cent of the Sun’s light, this planet might have a temperature quite similar to that of Earth. These mild conditions make it habitable enough to support liquid water. While there have been exoplanets which have been more similar in size or temperature, no other world has displayed a combination of those two qualities as well as lying in a habitable zone. Concerns Scientists, however, do have reservations about the exoplanet because its star is not as stable as the Sun. The star is a red dwarf that occasionally flares up and could destroy any life before it develops on the planet. Despite these concerns, scientists continue their research on the atmospheric conditions of the planet.

“This intriguing distant world gives us even greater hope that a second Earth lies among the stars waiting to be found,” said Thomas Zurbuchen who is associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington.
