Recently dismissed and jailed for 10 years former 17th Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has recently been shifted to a hospital.
Sharif is said to have been transported from Adiala Jail to Islamabad’s PIMS – Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on July 29th, merely after 16 days in jail.
Two ambulances, one carrying the incarcerated PM alongside a convoy of cars with facilitated personnel, were observed on the road on Sunday evening. As anticipated, PMLN supporters had already gathered outside the hospital to meet their leader. Slogans were also chanted in his support. Soon after being received at the hospital, it was informed by PIMS that Sharif’s condition was in fact, stable. In order to ensure his protected several police troops were deployed around the hospital premises. Sharif was later shifted to a presidential room of the cardiac center. It was later reported that Sharif was experiencing high blood sugar level and blood pressure. The reason for his transportation from the Adiala to the hospital is reportedly an unstable ECG, which was recorded while he was still in jail. Sharif’s blood was also shown to have been clotted which was considered unstable, especially taking into consideration his medical history. It was also informed that Sharif’s time at the hospital was dependent entirely on his condition and the discretion of his medical team.
Sharif also has diabetes and has undergone bypass surgery in the past as well. Furthermore, he is said to have high cholesterol and has been put on medication for his heart.
Sharif’s personal physician, his daughter, and his son in law all gathered in the jail to discuss the procession of Sharif’s health. Moreover, Sharif was allegedly said to have been severely dehydrated and showed an increase in his blood urea content. which could possibly harm his kidneys in the long run. He was also said to have experienced uncanny pains in both his arms. It has also been reported that Sharif was shifted to the hospital against his will. He had requested he be given treatment in jail. Required safety precautions were made and under those restrictions, Sharif has been moved to the hospital.
Several notables have expressed their good wishes for Nawaz, including Reham Khan, who had to say the following:
Even those of us who are not PMLN have realised in the last frw weeks who the real Shers are. Nawaz Sharif & Maryam Nawaz’s defiant stance has impressed many. #Leadership https://t.co/pvC6oTUVHl — Reham Khan (@RehamKhan1) July 29, 2018
No PTi worker or supporter to demonstrate outside PIM’s. PTI do not support any agitation against ailing Nawaz Sharif. — Imran Ismail (@ImranIsmailPTI) July 29, 2018
Other’s are drawing comparisons between Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif:
Nawaz Sharif has reportedly suffered a pulmonary embolism. It seems like that they are going to kill him in jail. Bhutto was hanged. NS would be slow poisoned or just killed off quietly in Adiala. Meanwhile the Greek God ???? can enjoy his time as Ladla as long as it lasts. — Yasser Latif Hamdani (@theRealYLH) July 29, 2018
But the fact is Bhutto was never given even basic amenities such as dental equipment, which makes this a slightly odd comparison. Sharif is still being given quick attention, as was Musharraf when he suffered heart trouble before every court hearing he had to appear for. Stress is real of course, in such extenuating circumstances, but one cannot lose sight of what the Sharif family is in jail for in the first place. While it would be heinous to say ‘I told you so at this point’, it is equally important to remember that he is serving time for a crime committed. All hopes for his recovery, but also for the recovery of all those prisoners who are not being given the same attention.
