What Happened: Nestlé Pakistan has taken another step toward a cleaner future by donating a compressing and baling machine to Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) in Askole – Zero Point.

What you need to know: This is part of its Clean Gilgit-Baltistan Project and will help manage the area’s 40,000 kg of yearly plastic waste. The machine will compress plastic and paper waste into bales that can be transported for recycling, in partnership with Gilgit Baltistan Waste Management Company (GBWMC). Raja Nasir, Minister for Planning, appreciated Nestlé’s efforts in protecting this fragile site, close to glaciers and major mountain peaks. Nestlé Pakistan CEO Jason Avanceña said the company is committed to ensuring none of its packaging harms the environment.

What More: Previously, Nestlé installed similar machines in Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu, managing over 6,800 tons of plastic in five years. They also provided recycled plastic benches, waste bins, and reusable bags to local communities. Commissioner Baltistan Kamal Khan praised the project and stressed the need to raise awareness to keep the region clean and beautiful.
