Pakistan seals Iranian border over fear of COVID-19 spread

What happened: Pakistan has reportedly ordered the seal of its Taftan border to its neighbouring country, Iran, in order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus from Iran’s city Zahedan. Sources claim; “No one is allowed to cross the border from either side.” In May of this year, Pakistan had sealed its borders with its bordering nations in fears of the pandemic spreading. The decision at that time was taken after the country announced to revise its land border management policy with neighbouring Iran and Afghanistan. With a rise in cases of the new COVID-19 variant in Iran and Afghanistan, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) issued an order to the authorities to revise the land border policy last month in order to stop the virus’ transfer. The revised land border management policy came into force from midnight between 4 and 5 May. The new border policy remained in force until midnight of 19 and 20 May, according to the NCOC.
