What Happened: A Pakistani delegation reassured US stakeholders about Pakistan’s secure legal system and commitment to Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) during a visit focused on improving investor confidence.

What you need to know: A Pakistani delegation, led by Supreme Court Justice Shahid Waheed, visited the US to assure stakeholders that Pakistan’s legal system is secure for foreign investors. The delegation, which included judges from both superior and district courts as well as senior law officers, emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR).

What more: They attended a week-long conference organized by the US Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) to bolster investor confidence in Pakistan’s ADR and mediation processes. Justice Waheed also spoke in New York and Washington DC courts. With a backlog of 2.3 million cases and about 4,300 judges, Pakistan is working to address delays through ADR and newly established mediation centers.

Also: The judiciary is actively promoting ADR to alleviate the burden on regular courts and reduce case backlogs.
