Pakistan’s Ahmaddiya community is included in the National Commission for Minorities for the first time

PM Imran Khan on Wednesday directed Ministry of Religious Affairs to include Ahmadis in the National Commission for Minorities. This is the first time the Ahmadiyya community is being included in National Commission for Minorities.

According to 92 News, the premier held a federal meeting in which the issue of including Ahmadis in the commission was discussed. Many members of the cabinet endorsed their inclusion while some were against.

PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain told the private news channel:  “The opening of Ahmadis’ pandora box is beyond understanding. The Ahmadis neither accept themselves as non-Muslim minority nor do they accept the constitution of Pakistan. Under these circumstances, favouring Ahmadis is a joke with Pakistan that is unacceptable.”

Once the commission is formed it will consist of nine official non-Muslim and eight non-official Muslim members. Ahmadis were declared non-Muslim in 1974 by then Pakistan’s people’s party government.
