In a historic decision, the Supreme Court has barred PML-N Leader Nawaz Sharif from politics for life. All five members of the SC bench voted in favor of the disbarment.

PTI’s Jahangir Tareen also faces the same ruling. A political decision of such magnitude will have quite a lot of political ramifications. An outpour of tweets has already given a sense of how the public sentiment will be shaped.
Political party leaders had quite a lot of comments to make in this latest news on Nawaz Sharif
Here’s PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari making a rather diplomatic claim.
I am of the belief that it’s the people of Pakistan who should make such decisions about the fate of politicians. Unfortunately it is PTI & PMLN themselves who have forced the judicialization of our politics. Naehal Nawaz & Tareen must now face the consequences of their actions. — BilawalBhuttoZardari (@BBhuttoZardari) April 13, 2018
Another PPP official had to say the following.
64 trips by the former PM and over a billion rupees later, what does this this Govt have to show for in terms of better diplomacy or foreign policy gains? Don’t mean to be dismissive of effort, but was much of it planned, strategic or anything but reactive? Sadly, no https://t.co/4MjuC6JP5R — SenatorSherryRehman (@sherryrehman) April 13, 2018
Meanwhile, with no official statement from Nawaz yet, Maryam Nawaz continues to play her role as the perfect daughter.
Her namesake Marriyum Aurangzeb appears to condemn the decision in this rather elusive retweet.
تاحیات نااہلی ہو یا تاقیامت نااہلی، عوامی لیڈرز پھانسی چڑھ کر بھی زندہ رہتے ہیں، تاریخ کا سبق۔ — Ibrahim Raja (@IbrahimR_) April 13, 2018
Shehbaz Sharif also put out a brief statement.
Nawaz Sharif is not the name of a person. Rather he represents a philosophy and an ideology of public service, supremacy of constitution and respect of vote. A leader like him does not need any formal office to continue guiding his party & serving his people. https://t.co/bSnQsDaV7B — Shehbaz Sharif (@CMShehbaz) April 13, 2018
While PTI is currently pushing their own political agenda, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged that Nawaz Sharif accept the decision with grace. Another PTI leader, however, hammered the point that Tareen’s revision petition is still to be heard.
No wonder that the masses are that desperate to see @ImranKhanPTI as their true saviour !! He has won the nation’s trust with his sheer integrity and undisputed patriotism. Wazirabad reverberates with #PTI thunder is understandable.#PTISialkotCampaign pic.twitter.com/KMH1YkRJJY — Tehreek-e-Insaf (@InsafPK) April 13, 2018
Do keep in mind that @JahangirKTareen‘s revision petition is still to be heard. Big and a rightful blow to Nawaz Sharif for looting & plundering of Pakistan, the wealth that rightfully belongs to the poor. That money which is more than Rs 300B is still to be brought back https://t.co/UsRXZpnYpQ — Dr. Arif Alvi (@ArifAlvi) April 13, 2018
As the tweets continue, a few journalists also gave their two-cents on the monumental verdict
Wonder what those ellipses mean.
Former pm nawaz shareef disqualified for life… — Kashif Abbasi (@Kashifabbasiary) April 13, 2018
Even though @JahangirKTareen has also been kicked out of the electoral game for life but no comparison w NS as JKT will retire & relax whereas Mian Sbs entire kingdom is at risk of crumbling #higherstakes — Meher Bokhari (@meherbokhari) April 13, 2018
I urge all those who claim Nawaz Sharif (or JKT for that matter) have been “convicted” by the Supreme Court to read paras 31-32 of today’s judgment SC clarifies they have NOT been convicted (and goes on to use that as a justification for lifetime disqualification) pic.twitter.com/Hx3LmwvuE1 — Reema Omer (@reema_omer) April 13, 2018
Nawaz Sharif wouldn’t have seen this day if he had given respect to the parliament in the way he should have, he & Imran khan had hounded us through SC, says PPP leader Khursheed Shah — Murtaza Ali Shah (@MurtazaGeoNews) April 13, 2018
