Quaid-e-Azam becomes first South Asian leader to be honored at elite private club in London

What happened: On March 3, a portrait of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was unveiled at Whitehall’s elite private members’ club, the National Liberal Club. Details: In the presence of artists, writers, and club members, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK Moazzam Ahmad Khan unveiled the picture, painted by portrait artist, Kaya Mar, as part of Pakistan’s 75th independence day festivities. Previously: Mr Jinnah, together with Dadabhai Naoroji, was a member of the club and was honoured with a portrait to mark their membership in 1913. The portrait: Mar was commissioned to paint Mr Jinnah’s picture by Bilal Sheikh, the principal of Mont Rose College. Sheikh stated, “Kaya himself knows that Jinnah was a brilliant politician and a believer in an egalitarian society.”
