Royal website hacked, links to charities replaced with Chinese porn sites

The Royal Family is unknowingly directing visitors on its website to a Chinese porn page.

The X-rated link was discovered in an obscure section of the Queen’s official’s website, highlighting the charities the royals are patrons of. At first glance, the page for Welsh Charity, Dolen Cymru, appears to be quite normal. The page reads: ‘The Wales-Lesotho link began in 1985 and has developed educational links, wider young people’s links, health, churches, women’s organisations’. But when you follow the link to the charity’s website, you are instead directed to a porn site, which offers live sex shows in China.

It’s not known if the royal website was hacked, or whether it’s an error with the charity’s website URL.

Why is it so easy to hack official websites? Honestly, we wouldn’t know anything about hacking and if it’s easy or not. But considering that many times the hackers turn out to be just trolls, we’ll take the risk and say that perhaps it is easy or maybe the websites aren’t protected enough. Seldom does a week go by without a major data breach being reported. The damage can be devastating. In the UK, the average cost of a data breach has grown to nearly £2.7 million, according to IBM research, and the reputational harm can be incalculable.
