Stakeholders call for unified national Extended Producer Responsibility framework as Pakistan advances toward circularity at the CoRe’s fourth Annual Convening, “Turning the Tide: Extended Producer Responsibility and Plastics Circularity,” held on 26–27 November 2025 in Nathia Gali.
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Dr. Musadik Malik, emphasized the urgent need for harmonized national action on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Extended Consumer Responsibility (ECR). Participants also agreed on the need for blended finance and concessional climate resilience-linked fiscal instruments for sustainable circular economy. Strengthen scavenger economics by formalizing and stabilizing recyclable materials, that reduce volatility for informal collectors and ensure steady feedstock for recyclers.
The two-day convening, brought together more than 80 representatives from federal and provincial governments, waste management companies, environment protection agencies, State Bank of Pakistan as well as major FMCGs, recyclers, packaging companies, financial institutions, UN agencies, think tanks, academia and media.
