Ahsan Iqbal was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for his alleged involvement in the Narowal Sports City project case and was accused of corruption. The former prime minister was arrested by the accountability watchdog for allegedly violating rules and causing a loss to the nation in the LNG case. The LNG case against Khaqan Abbasi, closed by NAB in 2016, was reopened in 2018. The bails to Iqbal and Abbasi were granted against bonds worth Rs10 million each in the cases against them. A two-member bench of the IHC, under Chief Justice IHC Athar Minullah, heard both the cases today. In the hearing, Additional Prosecutor General NAB opposed the bail of Iqbal, saying that if the suspect is granted bail then it can disrupt the case’s record.
